(DAY 11)
Kia Ora!
We had finally woken up to a lovely sunny morning. Kie got up extra early so he could catch a game of rugby on TV, knowing that he wouldn't see the second half if we stuck to the 10am check out, we asked if we were allowed to stay for the extra hour and luckily for Kie, we were! As soon as the rugby had finished, we got into the campervan and headed to the Pancake Rocks and Blowholes at Punakaki. We were, at first, unimpressed but as soon as the waves picked up and the blowholes did their job - we saw why it was a tourist attraction! We finished the walk and realised we'd worked up quite an appetite so we got some hot food from the Pancake Rock Cafe and got back into the campervan, eager to get to Johan and Jeannie's - Kie played rugby in Bugbrooke with Johan.
We arrived in Westport early afternoon and caught up with Johan and Jeannie for a few hours. Despite having been told it would rain in Westport, the sun was blazing! We went to the Seal Colony and watched the pups in the sunshine, enjoying an icecream. We also made our way to the lighthouse but realised the old lighthouse had been pulled down and the modern one wasn't very pretty at all. We went back to Johan's and started early with the drinking. They treated us to a lovely BBQ with lots of meat and salad where we were joined by Henrik and Suzann, a South African couple and later went into Westport to 'The Cry' where we drank until the early hours.
Kie ended up rather drunk and provided a lot of amusement for Sophie during the night trying to find the campervan door (even though we were inside Johans spare bedroom!!!!).
