Soongies' Great Adventure
Today we took the free ferry to Staten Island to go past the iconic Statue of Liberty on the way. We didn't stay on Staten Island though (only to get off the ferry and get back on it again) as we had heard there was nothing to see. We then found a nice Japanese restaurant where we both had a healthy looking chicken teriyaki. The food took ages to come though. We then wandered over to Chelsea Market and found an Aussie pie shop (with Tim Tams and lamingtons which we bought for our friend). Chelsea Market had a really nice vibe but it was very expensive so we waited until we were a few shops away from the market to buy an icecream - a delicious coconut icecream that we shared. Next we went to the Flatiron building in central Manhattan. This building, which derived its name from looking like an iron, is apparently one of the most iconic skycrapers in the world. From here, at ground level, we could see the Empire State Building too, which we walked up to.and looked around the lobby. We stopped at a little food shop and bought some fruit which we ate, along with a hot drink, at Starbucks. It was then time for a subway ride to Brooklyn to meet Kate's friend Heather (friends since primary school). We had a yummy Korean dinner at a restaurant called Bun Smith. After lots of eating and chatting we then went back to Heather's really cute apartment and did some more chatting (with her housemate too). Even though we were in Brooklyn and we were staying in Brooklyn it was still quite a long subway journey but we eventually got home at about midnight!

kentishclan Trystan actually grew up in Brooklyn! When he returned to Oz as a 6 yr old he was "Hey Momma... I wanna feed de boyds (birds)" Shame you didn't do a classic Italian dinner... he has lots of memories of all the eggplant parmigiannas etc. He's very jealous of your cream cheese bagel. That's another one of his precious childhood memories :)
