Soongies' Great Adventure
The sky was a bit grey and it looked like it could rain any minute but it held off again for us today! We caught the train from Utrecht to Rotterdam this morning. We were planning on travelling around Rotterdam like locals today. However bike hire was a bit pricey at €10 pp so we used the walking option instead! We started off at the Luchtsingel pedestrian bridge - the world's first crowd funded infrastructure project - a yellow 400 m long pedestrian bridge in the middle of the city. We wandered over the bridge, which is now a lot less yellow than it was originally as all the paint is peeling, and then we walked to the market hall. The market hall was full of lots of gourmet food stalls. We ended up choosing Japanese udon noodles for lunch followed by the famous Dutch poffertjes (mini donuts) for dessert. After lunch we walked along the water, past what looked like a crime scene, as there were loads of police in a cordoned off area, past the famous New York hotel to the huge ship - the SS Rotterdam. This ship no longer sails so has been converted to a 4 star hotel with restaurants and meeting rooms. We had a drink overlooking the water at the cafe in the boat which was a nice experience. We then caught a bus then the metro back to Rotterdam central station and then the train back to Utrecht. Back in Utrecht we met up with Jeroen at the impressive and very new city hall. The three of us walked the short distance to Eva's place where we relaxed a bit. Later on Eva and Jeroen very kindly cooked us savoury pancakes for dinner which were delicious. And then we had apple and icecream for dessert. It was then time for some dancing and music!! Eva's brother, Joep, is part of a DJ duo called Sick Individuals, so we danced the night away to his music (as well as some Spanish and French songs).
