Soongies' Great Adventure
Our last morning in Greenhill YMCA, Newcastle. Eva was the first to leave after breakfast as she had to catch an early bus to Belfast for her flight back to The Netherlands. Calvin and Kate headed into Newcastle town to look for some brunch which we found at Niki's Cafe, just near the entrance to Donard Park. We had a healthy breakfast of toast, beans, mushrooms, eggs and tomatoes for £4.50. We then bought a picture and walks book about the Mournes for Uncle Richard and Auntie Fiona from the information centre before heading back to Niki's Cafe to pick up some delicious slices as a thank you for the staff at Greenhill. Back at the centre, Stef, Calvin and Kate met up with Kenny, the director of Greenhill, who came back to work today after taking some time off. It was so good to see Kenny and catch up with him before we left. It was good hearing about the past few years since we had left and also some of the plans for the future of Greenhill and the direction it is taking. It has and hopefully will continue to expand in years to come, to be a place where people can keep coming to experience the outdoors, learn about nature and, as always, have fun. We said our final farewells to Brendan before Kate and Calvin packed up and headed off to the bus station to get to Dublin. Stef remained in Newcastle as she was flying back to Germany on Tuesday. On the way to the bus station, Kate went to buy some hiking socks to fit her new shoes while Calvin ran to Tesco's to buy some potato falls (3 packets) and some apples for the road. The bus trip was easy but we were very blessed to get a spot on our second bus from Newry to Dublin! It was almost a full bus by the time it pulled into Newry and after we just squeezed into the last few seats, there was only one spare seat left! We got to Dublin on schedule and made our way through the airport to catch our on time Ryan Air flight to Liverpool. Only half an hour of flying time and we were already landing! Auntie Fiona met us at the airport and drove us back home. It was nice coming back to Robinswood - Barnaby gave us an excellent and very enthusiastic welcome home greeting! Uncle Richard had prepared our tea and it was so wonderful to come back to our familiar and cosy English family.

kentishclan This is a really nice pic of you Kate. So young and fresh looking... all vibrant from your holiday lifestyle. Definitely NOT "I've been at work" face
kentishclan Great - now you've left Ireland I can stop reading about farls. I must have a dyslexic mind because EVERY time you wrote it my brain sped ahead and sent the decoded translation "we had potato farts for tea". Didn't sound that tasty really. :)
soongies Haha - and they're actually not that gassy!
