Soongies' Great Adventure
Time to leave New York today. Our flight to LA was actually leaving from New Jersey (another state)! We did contemplate catching public transport to Newark airport but it was going to take too long so after a relatively early start we got an Uber pool Newark airport. We aimed to get there at about 8:30 but we got there about 8:40 which did put us on our minutes a bit! By the time we had checked in and gone through security, it was already time to board! No time to buy nourishment for the plane. Luckily we brought bagels with Philadelphia from home for the journey (our NY home not our Australian home)! The plane trip took about 6 hours. Kate watched Lion which she highly recommends. The descending part of the trip had a lot of turbulence which made us both feel quite unwell so we were glad to land. We took a taxi from the airport to the Airbnb we were staying at in Torrance which was a nice short trip. As we were only staying in LA for 1 night (and we had just gained 3 hours) it was time to explore LA a bit! We contemplated catching public transport to Venice boardwalk but that would have taken us 2 hours so a 30 minute Uber pool ride it was. The waterfront was buzzing! There were buskers, skateboarders, rollerbladers, people doing yoga moves, people selling stuff as well as lots of food places (and a strong smell of weed)! First stop - food! We were starving! We got a huge slice of pizza each and some waffle chips and we ate that on the grass at the waterfront. We then walked all the way to Santa Monica. Along the way we took a photo at an iconic lifesaver hut! Santa Monica was happening too! There was a really cool guy (Daniel Morris) playing viola to pop music so we watched him for a bit (along with a huge crowd of others watching him too). We were ready for a healthy smoothie after that walk! So we headed into the town area of Santa Monica and found a place just before it closed. We tried to order an uber to get home but our internet wasn't really working so we took an expensive taxi back to our Airbnb and then had an early night as we were pretty exhausted given we were still in NY time.
