Soongies' Great Adventure
We had a scrumptious breakfast of omelettes and potato gems prepared by Aunty Betty. We then piled into their van and drove the 2.5 hours to San Diego for the afternoon.
We headed to Seaport Village - a quaint little area with small shops and restaurants on the water. We walked around a little bit and enjoyed the view of the very tall Coronado Bridge.
Aunty Betty and Uncle Joseph hadn't been to Coronado before so we decided to explore the peninsula. The drive over the bridge gave us beautiful views over San Diego. Once we got onto the island, there were plenty of huge mansions and beautiful houses all around, especially on the beach front. We strolled along the Coronado beach and saw the historic Hotel del Coronado, once upon a time the largest hotel resort in the world and is the second largest wooden structure in the USA.
We were getting pretty hungry by this time so we drove over to Pho T Cali where we had amazing Vietnamese food. Calvin got a large bowl of pho (everyone else had small bowls) and we all shared a really good dish of salt and pepper tofu. We rolled out of there over the road to a large Asian supermarket. Uncle Joseph bought a whole jackfruit. They had some yummy foods including kuih and sesame balls as well as a huge range of Asian groceries.
Then we headed over to Tapioca Express for some bubble tea. We were still really full by this time but we shared a jackfruit snow bubble - jackfruit blended ice and boba pearls. It was soooo good! Uncle Joseph and Aunty Betty are definitely spoiling us or at least fattening us up before we hit the road!
We headed back to Brawley, Uncle Joseph being a trooper and doing all the driving. We got into El Centro to the Walmart (our first Walmart experience!) to find a road map of the USA (we didn't find any though).
Finally we got home and had a late night snack of the sesame balls from the supermarket. They had nuts on the inside but the dough on the outside was great!
