Soongies' Great Adventure
We caught a Lyft (another version of Uber) to Hawthorne - a short drive away and with our signing up to Lyft discount, it only cost us $3! There were no dramas picking up the Jucy camper. In fact we saved $500 on the cost of insurance compared to what we had originally been quoted. We were also really excited to have a GPS thrown in for free! Once we had been shown how the van worked it was time to hit the road. Calvin drove! The free GPS was terrible as it was so small it was hard to see, so after taking a few too many wrong turns we decided to use Google maps instead (with the plan to buy a GPS later on). We had a 3.5 hour journey ahead of us to Brawley (where Calvin's Aunty and Uncle live), very close to the border of Mexico. We stopped after a bit for some lunch at a cheap Chinese restaurant in Corona. We shared a meal as the serving was huge! Eventually, at about 3:00, after a drama-free ride pretty much through desert, Palm Springs and lots of wind turbines we arrived in Brawley to the warm welcome of Uncle Joseph. We chatted for a bit and he showed us his heavily populated fruit and veggie garden. We then went to pick up Aunty Betty from work. The four of us then walked through one of the malls and then had yummy Chinese food for dinner. We had planned to get Mexican but it was closed. Huge servings again!
