Welcome November, J Goodbye Grandpa and Grandma, L Hello broken toe... L We took Grandpa and Grandma to the airport this morning and said our sad goodbyes. We will miss them both very much and their "stabilizing" effect on us!
From the airport, we went to Immediate Care with Eli's broken toe. While playing soccer he accidentally landed on his big toe in some outlandish would-be-ballerina toe step, with a hook and a twist!? As he can be a bit of a Drama Queen we weren't quite sure, on a scale of one to ten, just how bad "aughhh" is... but in his defence he nearly fainted, the nail will probably come off, and he did throw up a couple times (he broke the toe at the base of his nail which is no longer attached to the part that it should be). Of course it was a five star show in the clinic this morning as he was instantly put in a wheelchair by one nurse, had to get a Tdap shot from another, bandage cut off by one doctor, x-rays done by another, was fitted for a plastic shoe by the first nurse again, and was finally re-bandaged by the shot nurse who in no uncertain terms assured him it wasn't anywhere as painful as other treatments she could perform on him if he didn't stop whining!
He is playing it for all it's worth, and his sisters are at his beck and call (or so he thinks). We return Thursday for the orthopaedic specialist to check him out, and he must remain in his little plastic shoe for three weeks - even in bed. He is his own Cinderella.
Helpful quotes from those who love him most:
"It's not your hands that are injured"
"You'd think he had lost his entire leg!"
"Just because he's an invalid doesn't mean that I want to be - please don't give him crutches!"
"Just remember Bob Marley died of a broken toe!"

Julie I remember Eli's cut foot, the drama, the whining, the absolute show I had to bear to get it clean so I could put a bandaid on it. I can't begin to imagine a broken toe....hope you're better soon Eli, I know how much a broken toe hurts! :)
Aunt Marsha Having had toe surgery recently, I'll give you all the sympathy you want Eli. come on over!
Betty Eli you have all of my sympathy, I am sure that it is really painful. I hope you feel lots better soon!!!!!
Amy Yikes! That sounded painful. Sorry to hear about your toe Eli! I see that you are in good hands with your two sisters and receiving lots of sympathy.... or not, from the whole family :-) Hope you heal up real quick.
