Ocean Fishing: The most beautiful day of the year. Rough and chilly in the wee hours of the morning getting through Hecit Strait to Chattam Sound, but fabulous, sunny, and calm for the rest of the day. Eden caught the first fish, and then it was nonstop catching for hours after. We almost maxed our limit for salmon, but didn't get more than a nibble from the halibut. I caught the sun and enjoyed the excitement of every catch, although they did make me reel one in all by my own self. The day was a total success and considering the size of our little freezer, we have more than enough and then some to share.
We had a fabulous guide who set crab traps on our way out, and gave us the lot on our way back. It was a little creepy "gutting" a crab (not at all like a chicken) but after our little feast of crab and fish and chips we are hooked.
Naomi: I enjoyed riding the big waves on the way out, and the fishing was phenomenal. By the time we got back, my fish got squished and Eli's fish stretched!
Elias: Big fish, me catch!
Eden: We saw jellyfish, starfish, whales, crabs, eagles, and the ugliest rockfish ever! We're so proud of mom for reeling in a fish and gutting a crab.
Tim: An incredible way to relax – nowhere to go and nothing else to do.

Suzie-Q this look like the Dungeness crab... I remember first time I saw that kind of crab I though of it as not very appealing but gosh it was sooo good.... kinda sweet :-) and look at this.... To tell the difference between male and female crab, turn the crab belly-side-up, with the head facing away from you. If the belly “flap” pointing towards the eyes of the crab is shaped like a lighthouse (pointed), it is a male crab. If it is shaped more like an igloo (rounded), it is a female crab. hahahah! next time you have to try sea ursin!
