Shaun on the Road
Well, I am not on Easter Island as I write this, but I am going there on the 25th (this Sunday) and doubt I will have very much computer access. They have computers there, but I've heard it is expensive. Regardless, I'll give you a little update on how I'm doing.
Drew and I flew down to Punta Arenas on the 16th and went to Torres del Paine National Park. It was great. We did a 5 day 4 night trek and saw some pretty amazing sights. It was very windy at times, and we even heard stories of people having to crawl along the trail and one guy even being blown off the trail, seriously injuring himself. That didn't happen to us, but it was bad nonetheless.
On the way back from the park to Santiago (which involved four buses one airplane, and 24 hours) I managed to get into two fights with two seperate bus companies. The first one, I accidentially tripped the bus attendant because the seats were really close together and I had to put part of my foot out into the isle. He was not happy with me. The next one was a little different. We got into the town of Puerto Montt and had a bus ticket saying our bus for Santiago left at 8:40. There was an 8:30 bus, but no 8:40 bus. The 8:30 bus stopped and waited for us at the next town while we got on a different bus going to this town. I didn't want to pay for the leg on this other bus, because there was no 8:40 bus and it was the company's fault that we missed it (I asked 4 employees of the company if the 8:30 bus was ours, they all said no). The guy collecting money didn't buy what I was saying and we had to cough up 1 dollar each (yeah, I know, I'm cheap) for the connector bus.
But that was our adventure. I'll post another card when I get back onto the mainland from Easter Island in late Jan. or early Feb. Keep those e mails coming and take care.
