Saz and Dave's travels
We woke up this morning to yet another perfect blue sky day and decided that it would be a good day to take a 3 hr trip on a long tail boat to Koh Phi Phi Leh (where the film The Beach was filmed). We thought it would be best to go at 3pmish as this way we should avoid all the massive cruise ships and the day trippers, so we decided to get some chores done in the morning and arrange the trip.
We first arranged the trip with the fella outside our hotel and settled on a price of 800 Baht (around 12quid) for just the two of us to charter our own longtail boat around the major sights of the island. We then headed off to get the photos from Sarah's digital camera onto a CD, for everyone who reads the travel journal. By the way thankyou for all the really nice messages we have received we really appreciate it and it helps with Sarah's homesickness, and we are really sorry we havn't got round to E-mailing everyone individually but we will. Anyway after sorting the photos out we decided to have a fruit shake from one of the local vendors which had some wierd sugar water in which is absolutely rank so we left them at the hotel lobby.
Unfortuantely by this time (at about 2pm ish) clouds starting forming overhead so we decided that you lot would not enjoy any pictures taken today to the fullest and that we would sacrifice today in order to get better pictures for you all and go tomorrow when the weather would hopefully be better. So hesitantly we let down the boat driver but assured him that we would go tomorrow morning instead and headed off for some lunch at the Phi Phi bakery.
Over lunch we both decided that the day would be best spent back at our favourite little beach , so set off on the long hot walk which was definately worth it when chilling in the deck chairs in the shade. I also started feeling slightly hyper on the beach (must be all the energy stored up from sitting on the beaches all day) and decided to try to re-enact some local animals such as the frog (embarrassing Sarah in the sea) and also a monkey which you can see a picture of above.
We left the beach at the usual time and went back to the hotel before heading out for tea. We decided to eat at the cheap shack again after last nights extravagance. We had the chicken and cashew nuts again but also a lovely Green curry with coconut milk and veg. Delicious and very cheap and friendly, perfect.
As we had an early tea and had only spent a small amount on it, we decided to have a quick look round the shops (where Sarah got a new necklace) and have a quick drink at a beach side cafe. Sarah had a very strong Black Russian (after her first two choices were unavailable for some reason) and I had a glass of Johnnie Walker black which was nowhere near as good as Glen Morrangie (Kate will appreciate that comment if no one else does!).
That night back at the hotel we noticed that we could see flashes of lightning on the horizon and also the odd rumble of thunder, however there was no storm or anything in the night and it was all very curious.
