Saz and Dave's travels
We woke up this morning at 9:30ish to get our free American buffet style breakfast with fresh fruit, cereals, choice of eggs cooked how you like it, toast, salad, noodles, rice, sausage, bacon, beans etc WOW!!!! (I know we are far too obsessed with food but you'll just have to put up with it or write your own journal).
During breakfast we decided to head to Long beach (which you can see in the picture), one of Phi Phi's lovely beaches. Despite all the offers from people on the street for taxi boats, we thought it a good idea to try to walk to Long beach as the guidebook says it was only half an hour away. If you know exactly where you want to go and have the stamina of Paula Radcliffe the guidebook is fairly accurate, however in the blistering heat and with the lack of signposts (probably removed by the taxiboat men), it took us almost twice as long.
On the way to Long Beach, we stumbled accross a very nice little beach which we have christened Our Beach from now on and will definately be spending lots of time at. It was completely empty apart from one person and had plenty of free deck-chairs and lots of shady spots plus a cool swing over the sea. We stopped here for a quick swim before continuing up and down the rugged coastal path towards Long beach. The path was very hard to find at times and the last stretch onto the beach is very steep and requires the use of a set of ropes which was a good laugh until Sarah slipped on her bum which i found funny much to Sarah's disliking.
When we finally reached Long Beach, we both went straight for a swim to cleanse our bodies of all the rank sweat accumulated on the walk. This beach was quite touristy as it was a main stop for all the day trippers from Phuket and the like. There wasn't quite so much shade here, however the sea was very clear again, the sand white and the deck chairs free, what more do you need for a relaxing day on the beach.
We had lunch at the beachside restaurant (I had a luxury Pad Thai (noodle dish which anyone coming to Thailand should try) and Sarah had a yellow red curry) and by the time we had finished most of the tourists had made a move for other beaches leaving us to enjoy the rest of the afternoon in peace. We stayed soaking in the sun on the beach until around 6ish when we decided to go home, which was a lot easier than coming here as the tide had gone out and the sea was really shallow for around 100m out so we practically walked round the coast back to the hotel. Once we got back we enjoyed another coffee and I noticed that the first time i had actually worn my hand made shoes they were already falling apart. So i probably wont be sending my orders from England to Vietnam in a hurry!
We had a late tea tonight in a very cheap little shack style restaurant that was absolutely delicious. The owners were really friendly and made a mean chicken and cashew nuts. On the way back from tea however we felt sorry for people that were still eating as a man of about 45-50 was parading around in nothing more than a thong at 10 pm at night - INTERESTING.
