Hola from Peru!
We arrived at midday and checked into our hotel in Puna before meeting up in reception.
We left on taxi bikes (tuk tuks for those that have been to Thailand!) and headed towards the harbour where we divided into small groups to have lunch.
Afterwards we boarded a boat which took us out to the floating islands in Lake Titikaka-they were so cool!!
The first island we went to was home to about 5 different families. We were shown how they build the islands from reeds and how they then go on to build their houses and boats and other communal areas. The islands were incredible! Really really cool (apart from the guinea pigs...I had that awful feeling I was stood in the kitchen rather than the garden when I saw them :-( eek!!)
After the talk we were shown around the houses and dressed up in traditional clothing...huge skirts that would definitely hide the results of too much cake!! (might come home in one!) and cool waistcoats and top hats...we looked like idiots but it was good fun!
Then we took a small boat ride (handmade boat made from reeds-really cool wait until you see the picture of it!) and headed over to another island which was very similar before taking our boat back to the main island.
In the evening we had free time so four of us girls headed out for a local meal.
The food was amazing!!! I had alpaca skewers with apple and red wine sauce (mum I have found something else we can put red wine in! No more boring apple sauce! But it has to be smooth,no rank chunks lol) and they came with 3small jacket potatoes and cream cheese Mmmmmmm yum!! We all loved it!! Then we topped the meal off nicely with a mug of hot chocolate for desert :-)
The following day we had to be up early for a long drive day to Cusco...
