After a very hectic few days in Peru it was time for me to arrive in Santiago, Chile!!
I arrived very late, gone midnight so literally just grabbed a cab and headed to my hostel, The Princesa Insolente, and my new home for about 2weeks!
The guy who checked me in was very friendly but could obviously see how tired I was! He showed me my room and I just slept for hours!
The next morning I met my roomies! Two german guys and a girl from Switzerland, all very friendly! I unpacked a lot of my things and decided to do laundry! I spent the day sorting everything out before exploring the area near my hostel! I enquired about a shopping mall as I literally had a very empty backpack due to the robbery! Instead of rushing I decided I would do this the following day, so I just found a supermarket and bought some things for dinner before heading back to the hostel.
I was persuaded to sign up for the Wednesday night BBQ and drinks plus a free taxi to a nightclub, which was the following night. I wasn't so sure but after a lot of persuasion from the receptionest I thought why not!
I opted for an early night ready for my full day of shopping!!
I was up quite late the next day, seem to be sleeping for hours! but I quickly grabbed a shower, got dressed, grabbed a map from reception and headed for the metro station! now there's a tester for my Spanish! Somehow with a bit of rubbish spanish and some pointing of a map I managed to by a return ticket to the shopping mall which was at the very end of the line! So on I hopped and off I went!
Once at the end of the line I jumped off the metro and took about a ten minute walk to the shopping mall! The place was huge! Bonus because I needed quite a lot! I was also really excited to find a topshop!! oh yes!! sorted!! I spent a few hours here, grabbed lunch and then hopped back on the metro and to my hostel.
That night was the BBQ, so I freshened up and met a few people outside in the courtyard. There was an american guy, an australian guy, a lovely french girl and quite a few brazilians! Everyone was really friendly and we soon all got chatting and ended up quite drunk! They have a cocktail called an 'Earthquake' which is white wine, pisco and pineapple ice cream and well it gets you absolutley trollied! It was a really nice night and a great way to meet some new friends!
The following day was an absolute write off as I was completely hungover! So I spent the day in bed!
Friday came and I ended up going out on an all day session with a few people I had met at the BBQ, we even went coning! It was a really nice day and a good laugh!!
For the next few days I headed to Vina del Mar and Valperaiso (different blog!!)
So after my weekend away at the seaside I returned on the bus to the same hostel! I knew people there so it was nice to just hangout!
It was at this hostel that I met Arianna, Kayla, Benny, Louise, Lucas, Lucy etc etc! An awesome group of people!
I did the BBQ night again with a few of these and ended up at one of the nightclubs which was good fun from what I remember! Getting lost in the taxi on the way home however wasn't so much fun! Although it is funny to look back on!!
Over the next few days I shopped, got drunk, had some amazing lunches out with Arianna, got VERY drunk on champagne mojitos with Kayla on my birthday and literally just had a really fun time! and some awesome memories!!
After two weeks I checked out of my hostel and met mum and dad who were bringing me lots of nice things from home!
I left the hostel on the worst day ever! The students were rioting so alot of the roads were blocked off, it too me ages to get to the hotel where I was meeting mum and dad but eventually I arrived!
Wow the hotel was gorgeous, a small boutique hotel and very personal! I checked into my room (felt a little out of place in my backpack!!) and awaited mum and dads arrival!
They arrived late afternoon, we caught up, then went back to the rooms to freshen up before meeting up for dinner. We didn't eat late as mum and dad had had a long journey, but we went to a steak restaurant which was gorgeous!! I think it was one of my best steaks yet!!! absolutely yummy!! We had two bottles of red wine then headed to a local bar for some more drinks!
The next day we were hungover!!! We took the open top bus around Santiago but we all struggled! Dad just wanted a beer and a burger and to be honest so did I! I think that was the only thing that would cure my hangover!! We had this fairly late on so we didn't really bother with dinner!!! We just chilled at the hotel and tried to recover!!
The following day was Sunday and everything shuts in Santiago, so again we just chilled out, went for a walk and booked to do a vineyard tour the following day. In the evening we relaxed for a couple of hours before heading to a small french restaurant for dinner. I had a stew type thing which was delicious!
The vineyard tour the following day was good, it was pretty much a full day and we visited 3 different wineries, sampled lots of wine and had a light lunch! It was nice to get out of the city for a while! In the evening we met Arianna for dinner at Patio Bellavista, it was a lovely relaxed meal and mum and dad enjoyed meeting Arianna after they had heard so much about her!
The next day we went to the shopping mall and got me some last minute bits and pieces. We spent the day at leisure and then went back to the amazing steak restaurant that night! It was our last night together so we just wanted a nice meal and we knew how good it was there!!
Mum and Dad were up very early the next day so we our goodbyes that evening. It was sad but at the same time it was nice to have been able to see them!
The next day I also flew out to New Zealand! So goodbye South America!! It's been hectic!!
