After the homestay we travelled all day towards Chivay. The journey was long so we opened a bottle of wine at lunchtime and got the good old face paints out! So I painted Shanna as an egg (because she is one!) and she painted me as a smurf...completely blue! nice one, she did make me a hat out of kitchen roll also though! Then we got the rest involved, we had a bee, flower, ladybird, lion, pirate, inca kola bottle and the joker! was good fun but the hotel must have thought we was all crazy when we finally arrived early evening!
That night we had time for a quick shower (would have been quick my face wasn´t bright blue!) and then went to a local restaurant for dinner. Afterwards we headed to an Irish bar (yes they are everywhere!) and had a few beers and the longest game of pool ever...the table was shocking, but I guess we were also! Then Shanna dropped me on a barbed wire fence on the way home...Magic!
The following morning we headed off in the truck to Colca Canyon, a canyon twice as deep as the Grand Canyon. We had a guide on our truck who explained all about the Inca terraces which were still present and maintained by two tribes, Collaguas and the Cabanas. To be honest I think I fell asleep, but I got the basic bits hahaha!
It is also home to the Andean Condor which you can view at an area known as Cruz del Condor. They are best seen early on in the morning when they are hunting and they fly on thermals of warm air which rises from canyon. We were lucky enough to see them, they are huge...you would not want to get pooped on by one of those!!! I did have some cool photos but hey ho they got lost! or should I say robbed!
Anyway after seeing the condors we headed back to the village, we sat on the roof seats on the truck so got some pretty awesome views and I was pretty much wide awake now! We stopped off at an all you can eat buffet restaurant nom nom and I ate quite a lot! ha then we headed back to our hotel and chilled for a few hours before all going to the hot springs.
The hot springs were awesome! We sat in a pool at 39degrees ahh bliss and enjoyed some cocktails...mojitos!! We were there for about an hour before heading back, getting changed and going out for dinner.
The rest of the group went to bed after dinner, but myself and Shanna decided to go for a few cheeky drinks, we managed to convince the bar guy to give us happy hour on pisco sours, then we met an american couple and ended up getting wasted again! We had to be up early the next day :-/ for our journey to Arequipa...Excellent!!
