Well after a horrible night in tents we drove through the freezing cold and arrived in Cafayate.
Cafayate is known for it's vineyards and therefore wine tasting! Yes more wine!
We arrived early afternoon, pitched our tents and had a much needed shower! Not just any shower though...this was a hot one!
We had the rest of the afternoon free so we headed into the village square and found a warm bar/restaurant where we sat and drank until 7pm when we left and went for a group meal (slightly tipsy by this point)!! The meal was nice and the wine kept flowing so I ended up a tad woozy :-/ we left the restaurant and a few of us took a longer route home. It's all a bit vague to be honest, apart from the plant pot incident...
I'm still not sure why I did it or if I was encouraged or what but for some reason I decided to climb into what looked like a large plant pot. After a leg up I soon realised I wasn't going to fit...that was until suddenly I fell through the hole into it, problem was my feet didn't touch the ground so I was just hanging and well stuck :-( thankfully/painfully I was pulled free but I did have two lovely bruises the next day...note to self, never climb into plant pots when drunk!
Anyway the journey home continued, via a troll/fairy shop which was crazy when your drunk! So many fairy lights :-) and then onwards to the mega disco which didn't actually open until 2am, still we decided to let the tramp in there smash his tin cans together and entertain us with his music! Yes we was drunk so yes we did dance :-/ bad!! We then carried on back to the campsite and picked up some 8peso wine which was in a carton-don't ask me why it was rank!! Then we had wheelbarrow races and finally collapsed back in our tents...
So slightly hungover at 8am the next day when we had to cook breakfast but the hangover didn't last long.By 10am we was at our first vineyard tasting wines! That's my kind of Sunday morning! We went to a few different vineyards then went back to the square for lunch...empanadas nom nom!!
Then it was onwards to Salta, our last chance to buy warm clothes before leaving Argentina and heading across the border to Chile and then Bolivia...

Jerry My wife and I lived in Salta for several months about a decade ago and have been back a few times since then and know the region. We just published a mystery novel set in Salta and the surrounding areas, which should have all the background information anybody might want to have read before visiting the area, at a very affordable price. The book, "The Empanada Affair" is available from Amazon as an E-book for $0.99. Go to www.amazon.com and search their book section for "empanada affair". Click on the picture or title to get to the page where you can buy the book and at the same time you can download a free Kindle reader application. The book has chapters that describe Salta, Cafyate, Jujuy, Purmamarca, Cachi, Humahuaca, and much of the rest of the region. You can also get descriptions of food, wine, and artisanal crafts from the novel. There is a lot more detail than you will find in the typical travel blog. And you'll also get a nice book to read during the long flight(s) or bus rides to B.A. and Salta from wherever you start your trip.
