Our last day at school
We picked up all our items for school and headed off with a big 'to do' list.
Helped in the kitchen with apples and ripping up bread (for a Peruvian dish ajo de gallena), big poster for our fair well, games, kiss a doll somewhere different, balloon around the circle, first two out played statues, then two more rounds with 2 pairs of dancing, Clarita was cheating by using the reflection from her screen to stop the music, both times Sarah and a student and myself and a student had to dance, Sarah pulled out the Saturday night fever moves both times and other than that we had twirls. It was a very funny time.
We finished off with musical chairs, but the size difference ment we had an advantage at the start. We got some photos which we will have to get off the other camera. Coke and cookies it turned out are special treats.
We ate talking to a few students, one in her final year and then went to let the fleas in. All the kids had arrived early for a surprise for us. We waited in the fleas chairs while everyone else was in the next room. When we walked in they were all clapping and gave us a few presents. A Peru pin for our shirts, two cards made by students and some roses for Sarah.
They then did three types of thank you, translated as the rain thank you, where they start with one finger clapping, then two, three four and then clapping fully, then back down. It does sound like rain on the roof getting harder.
The second one was the Chinese one, clapping then a swoosh, again the other way, a few more motions ending with pulling their eyes out. The final had hugs and blowing kisses, very cute and it was an amazing feeling with so many people. We didn't expect this.
Then a different supervisor gave us each a small pot with a bag inside it. The bag contains rice, lentils and corn. This symbolises luck with life (food, rice) family (corn) and wealth (lentils), I believe. The pot has writing around the edge thanking us with the name of the comedor and the date. A few kids said a few words and that was great. The last 4 days we have got to know them a lot and they run up to us as we walk through the school at the start of the day. They wanted to know when we were coming back.
We finished this and got back to work, our final service of the fleas. We had more weapons in our arsenal today which included bribing them with the lollies and refusing to do my tricks till they were finished eating.
We handed out the lolly bags to the fleas and I gave them to the juniors.
We had our final afternoon activity of making bracelets. It is relaxing by yourself but with that many children and that many eager kids wanting attention, it's not relaxing. We finished up and said our goodbyes to all the kids, followed by the kitchen staff and supervisors.
We walked out for our last day, both wishing we could stay and do more. We went to the market where for the second day they had done nothing with her skirt so we took it and left. We made it home, Sarah skyped home and I went to physio before we both went to our second last Spanish lesson. Walk our dog and off to sleep
