Steve-We are in the cafe at the start of the ski lifts, do we feel like newbees !!!

How do you walk in these boots?

How cold is it up the mountain(volcano)?

Is it possible to be a good skier at our age, or should we have learnt at the age of 5?

Will we be able to walk off the mountain?

I am an old hand at this due to previous experience- new definition of old hand-
old: over 50,
hand : I completely disown my lower body- my legs and feet are not part of me.
For the moment I will accept responsibility for my hands but once I get going faster (moving) I cannot promise anything. I feel i must apologise to the instructor before we begin.
The first challenge is the ski lift-
I have been carefully observing-
Walk, stand still, sit, hold on to ski's and poles- don't crap yourself.
I need a swig of gaviscon
Getting on the lift was not so bad but someone should have said about the safety bar needing to be down and I don't feel 'just run' was adequate instruction on dismount, however DUCK clearly saved me. Steve had cleverly run in the sideways direction.
I love skiing! Steve got really good at getting up again and then moved on to learning how to keep off the snow barriers. He got quite good but judges himself severely.
For anyone who knows me well as a skier- yes I took out the instuctor but she was very nice about it and praised me saying I was a kami kazie skier?
My greatest moment? I fell right off the side of the moving carpet head first into a snow drift ski's, poles, goggles. It was so spectacular a number of people ran to congratulate me as I was the only one who had managed it. Eveyone was very sad they had not captured the moment-ok - but they didn't need to sit with cameras poised after that incase I did it again.
What a fantastic day! I love it here. We are now lying in a darkened room for a rest and quiet time. Oh and I have sustained an injury- I have had to purchase ibilieve gel for my thumb. Ow
