Its our last day today so we go ape. Its called high tree top adventures here which sounds tame until you have a go.
I don't know what it is about me- I train for 14 weeks for a half marathon which I decide not to run as its 5 days before our long haul flight out here and then the day before we return we go climbing trees, throwing ourselves off high platforms and struggling around a very strenuous course with children frquently catching us up. The harness chaffed too.
We had to sign a disclaimer and read a complicated list of instructions and get one demo before we are off. Its heart stopping stuff until after a while you forget how high up it is and get on with trying not to do the splits, not to wobble uncontrolably and not to cry like a baby when the kids start screaming the rope is broken!
Plus you really have to concentrate- always be harnessed on with at least one harness at any one time, only harness to red wires, put your pulley on blue wires, throw the rope behind your back and over your shoulder, dislocate otherwise useful joints and don't look a prat. Basic failure there. I was dead impressed with a mum who said she was doing this for the first time too but looked in control (she said she was pretending because of the children), she even looked down at the ground and shouted at her younger child 'get that out of your mouth'. Impressive parenting.
We had the best time. Steve was hilarious on the flying foxes due to his height he kept either embedding his feet in the sand or ending up backwards rolling around. When he got up he left little wiffs of sand everywhere from up his shorts.
We are now back at the apartment after another gorgeous beach afternoon and we are trying to eat all our food up. We are having some funny concoctions but we are cooking before our shower so we are at least safe from fire hazard tonight.
Tomorrow we travel home. Can't wait to see the kids.
