I am eating gritty sand, have sand in my eyes and have strange partings in my hair. Yes I have just visited 90 mile beach.
I now realise that it is infact 119km long and probably got its name due to the wind speed. It was spectactular and deserted and had I been a surfer in a wet suit with breathing equipment and body armour it would have been THE place to be. I got a bit worried about the size of the waves in the distance but by the time they reached my feet they were just ripples.
The sand dunes were not safe havens from the wind and also we need to consider it is environmentally damaging to climb them. Also I think the flip flops did not help as they flick sand up in the air. Steve is especially good at making his flip flops flip and its like a sahara sand storm behind him and I can't get upwind. I am still depositing little sand dunes everywhere I sit from the turn-ups of my shorts- its like escape from colditz.
Another magnificent exploration of new zealands treasures with lots of little sandy momentoes. (crunch)
