After two nights (one of them very long) in Seville, I got back on the bike again and sped to Madrid. Bike running well again. Average speed of about 140 Kms an hour. Not bad for a single cylinder. Got into town about 2 pm and wasted no time before I started my wander through the city. The hotel is situated just off the Plaza Mayor. This wide open court yard forms the center of the old city and is huge. Flanked on all sides with a big airy arched walkway. All the architecture is 17th century and there is a big bronze statue of......a guy on a horse in the middle. From the plaza alleyways run away from the square and disappear into more cobbled alleys. One of these roads heads straight to a place I found by accident. It was called market San Miguel (I think) and it is not huge but inside you can wander around and pick tapas sizes portions of food. All very good quality and reasonably priced. That is one thing that I have noticed. The prices are more expensive in Madrid. Hopefully not a continuing trend as I head north. Bought a new pair of thongs today. The pair I bought in Abu Dhabi were getting dangerously thin and slippery. An ill timed blowout was inevitable. Will be looking for the homeless guy wearing them tonight. Hopefully a pic. Went to try on some shorts today at a shop. they fitted well but were 115€! for a pair of shorts! Sticking with my old target ones until I can find some cheaper ones. No wonder people in this country have no money. They have to buy clothes. Here is another observation. The Spanish do eating very well. And for the most part it is done outside. These people have perfected the mister. Just about all awnings and umbrellas have these misters that blow water mist over you. The air is that dry and hot that nothing actually gets wet. Instead it just cools the air around you. Tomorrow I head out of here for a quieter town, Caceres. Should be interesting and a little more relaxing. Heading down to this market to eat. Again. Adios.
