It's been a while so I will go back some. I stayed nearly a week in Es Canar relaxing and catching up with the Duncans. It was good to see them all including their new addition to the family Murdo. A bit of a champion. Had a few big nights on the island but did not go to any of the "superclubs" as I had planned. A 5 minute walk down the street in Santa Antonio told me that is not the sort of place for the likes of me. It would have killed me. I met some pretty interesting people over there including a lady called Penny who had lived on the island for the best part of her life and was the original travel agent for Ibiza along with many other Spanish based countries. She gave me the run down on where I should go in mainland Spain and over a coffee we discussed the trip. So far, all good advice. So the day after the Duncan's left I headed to catch my 11am ferry back to Denia (as per the timetable on the companies website). Being the fretter I am, I slept very little the night before, laying there trying to get a plan together in my poorly exercised mind. I left the hotel early and was on the other side of the island ticket in hand rearing to go at 8:30am. My reply was " no sir the boat, it leave at 8am. You want 5pm ferry". No point getting pissed off now, because it will not mean a thing to them and it won't fix anything. "Si. Uno ticket. Per favore" p****! It is the Spanish way of doing things apparently, so I had better get used to it. With only an hour of sleep I hung around the air conditioned ferry terminal most of the day in my riding clothes as the mercury hit 35 C outside. Finally got on the boat and it set sail for Denia. As I had a little spare time waiting for this boat , I managed to book a hotel about 20km out of the port for 22€. Good going I thought! Teulada was the name of the place. I was greeted by a lady at the counter of the hotel who was as unfriendly as she was large and she threw me some keys and made up a room number with some imaginary directions on how to get there, then disappeared into the back room to yell at someone else. After a few attempts to find said room I found myself on the 5th floor tired, hungry and a little cranky. It was late so the cook had gone home so I turned in. The room was a sauna, there was no AC, half the lights were missing (replaced by holes in the plaster with what I believed to be live wires hanging out). After giving the mosquitoes a buffet dinned I awoke feeling a little down on Spain. I got away from there at about 10:30 and headed back down the coast. Interesting ride. I wove in and out of seaside towns taking it in. I was unsure of where to stop and to be honest I am over the med coast for a while. One of the hotels was an all inclusive number. I ran out of that place. Now feeling very sorry for myself and so tired I could not think straight, I punished Murcia into the tom tom and rode without a plan till I got there. I went into the first hotel I saw when I got there, booked a very clean, modern, AC cooled room. I have checked in for two days and have been knocking around the city centre just enjoying the total lack of anything touristy or a half pissed Englishman singing football songs. The tapas here are excellent and the beer is served cold which is perfect for those 35 C days. The morning here was a chance to get a look at my bike which is running a little rough right now. In the cool of the morning I stripped the covers off and started examining the fuel lines. They are ok but the carburetor is a big contract to repair in the street in front of the hotel. So I have run some injector cleaner through the system which will hopefully make it run a little better. Here's hoping. Guadix in the morning so I must search out some accommodation. Sara suggested I stay in a cave house. Maybe!
