I'm in Cáceres. The ride is getting more interesting. Less brown grassy planes and a little more gorges and greenery. The bike is getting harder to start when cold and I am convinced the carburetor is a mess and the jetting is in need of adjustment. There may be another night here until I figure this one out. The mercury has gone over 40 today and I have left the looking around until the last few hours of daylight. This is a brilliant little town and I am positioned in a hotel, four minutes walk from the old stone walls that keep it perched on top of a small rise. I mentioned that it is small but it has obviously been an important center in the past. Many of the old buildings bear standards and coats of arms on there exterior walls. The buildings seem less like administrative places and more like dwellings. Being Sunday, all the information places are closed and Wikipedia is annoying sometimes. I'll look it up later. Did I mention it is hot! It's well after nine o'clock and its still on the mid 30s. I had my finest lunch in Spain today. Ate at a place called La Minerva. The paella was excellent and I ate a stew with pork and mushrooms for my main. All topped off with a scoop of very rich chocolate ice cream. A bargain at 14€ with a couple of beers thrown in. Sets my mind at ease about prices after an expensive visit to Madrid. After such a big meal and the heat turned all the way up, I rolled back down the hill to find my air conditioned room and punch out a few hours sleep. So i now am sitting in the expansive town square eating plates of tapas that are coming with my drinks, watching people being people. The light is fading as it goes west, the people are settling into their meals and drinks and the swallows are madly swooping and darting noisily around the square. A successful day by all standards.
