I left Granada for Seville this morning with a bit of regret. The 250 odd kms passed without issue, and the bike is running well with the new spark plugs. It got better fuel economy as it rolled easily through the olive orchards and fields of fried sunflowers. The land here is scorched by the sun and only the oleanders and olive trees break up the brown vegetation and sun baked rocky outcrops. An early start was a good idea because at altitude the cool breeze feels damn nice. I stopped at a roadside cafe, the equivalent of a truckstop back in Australia, for a coffee and a sandwich. I have never seen a truckstop like this. It was a massive deli selling everything from a plate of anchovies to a whole leg of jambon. If only we had that, I may even consider handing in my brain to drive interstate. The tomtom took me deep into the centre of Seville. Roads quickly becoming narrower and more confusing as the tar turned to cobbled alleys and the old buildings edged out footpaths. And there I was. At the convent. It was not straight away obvious that I was outside my destination as the entrance was concealed a short distance down an alley. I am sure the designers did not have tourists and curb appeal in mind when it was constructed. The hotel is a great place with plenty of personality. Clean cheap and very convenient. Any Ideas of regret about leaving Grenada soon were forgotten as I got unpacked and went off to look around. The area is a very big stone maze that is a bit of a tourists heaven. And don't they know it. I know that this is high season but this place is completely mobbed. Spaniards and others alike. My walk today has not covered nearly enough and as soon as I finish my beer and tapas I will see I another night is possible. Southern Spain is so much better than the med coast I must say. And from all reports it will get better as I head north.....provided I ever make it there. So on my walk I went and bought some replacement t-shirts and looked for some shorts that don't seem to exist unless bright pink is your thing. It is not mine. I don't mind blending in with the Europeans but not at that expense. Speaking of shorts. In Spain the uniform if you are female and under the age of 30 is a pair of shorts that would fit a Barbie doll and a revealing low cut top. Just saying!! Oh yeah there is lots of old churches and buildings and stuff here too.
