Sibiu. A blip on the map that I would have missed, had I not gone there to see Dave race in an an insane motorcycle induro race. They shut the city down for two stroke stroke bikes to rip through the cobbled streets and jump over and around important historical buildings and monuments. Following this they tear their way through the lush undergrowth of the Transylvanian Forrest where rider and environment get destroyed alike. Great event. I arrived late on the last day of riding after a fairly long day avoiding crazy Romanians over taking on blind corners and generally being a danger to themselves and everyone else around them. You have to keep your wits about you on these roads or you will end up utilizing your travel insurance-or worse! This is a fairly cheap place and I have been eating and drinking my fair share of the local product. Surprise surprise. Yesterday I went with dave and a few of the riders to the pit crews house to look at the bikes and see a bit how the locals live. Upon our arrival we were taken down the a cellar where the mechanics father produced drinking ethanol and grappa. The hospitality was generous and set me up for a painful early start. Dave was on a 7 am flight and as I was crashing on the floor of his hotel so I was out on the road at 6am trying to keep myself awake with coffee stops. I hit the road to Budapest and knocked off 300km of good road before it all became too much and I pulled on to a hotel in Lipova. Nice place as it turns out, for a place named after Mary Magdaline. We shall see what happens here after the sun goes down. I slept for a solid 5 hours and got up expecting to go for a walk but the afternoon storms are about so I think I will wait off a while.
