Ross and Gabs Travels
Saturday 4th August Miles
We drove to Possum Park today. It is a lovely little park 20kms north of Miles. Possum Park is a very quiet special place nestled in the side of hills, just off the highway. Old train carriages have been made into self contained cabins and amenities for campers such as a Reading Room and TV Room. The TV room seating was a bit off putting as I believe it is an old dentists chair which takes pride of place (see the photos). Unlike Mitchell it is so quiet at night you could hear a pin drop.
Sunday 5th August Mount Morgan
We drove today to Mt Morgan about 330kms. We got here at about 3.30, just in time for Ross to settle down and watch the footy. Unfortunately for me though there is no WiFi service so I will have to wait till tomorrow to access emails and post to the blog.
We are in a great spot all by ourselves with lovely grass all around and a concrete slab to put the chairs on.
Monday 6th August Mount Morgan
Mt Morgan is an historic Gold mining township. The mine ran out of gold about 15 years ago and since then the town has struggled to grow as a community. They are getting there now with a more organized tourism schedule touring the town and old mine.
We went to Horse Creek which is a “suburb” of Rockhampton just past Mt Morgan. About two minutes from the caravan park we are staying in and visited friends and relatives.
Tuesday 7th August Mount Morgan
Today we went to Rockhampton fully intending to go to the coast to Yeppoon. However we needed a few things at the shops so stopped at this huge shopping centre and you all know how I love big shopping centres, so in we went to get the few things we needed. Big mistake!!! I decided I needed my hair cut so found a place called “Just Cuts” no appointment needed so while I was doing that Ross went down the road to Jaycars to see if he could get an antenna to improve our Internet connection. Somehow or other this took most of the afternoon so we came back to Mt Morgan and went out for tea to Ross’s brother’s place. While we were there Ross did an oil and filter change and horror of horrors discovered an oil leak from the transmission. He says it just needs an O ring. This is not a good place for this to happen as we don’t know what the local Jeep dealer/mechanics are like.. Found out on the Internet and we weren’t impressed with the reviews. I suggested some Blutac but Ross says that wouldn’t help.
We are booking in at this park for another day to get this problem seen to. The jeep is still under warranty so we have to be careful about who does the work so we don’t void the warranty. We both really want to get moving again now and it’s pretty frustrating.
The antenna is not working properly Black Holes are a curse and the National Broadband Network is no help at all.
Wednesday 8th August
We found a transmission mechanic in the phone book that would put the jeep on the hoist in the afternoon and see what the problem is while we went for a walk. Nothing major thank goodness. He tightened up some bolts and fingers crossed he says that was all that was wrong. Ross will keep an eye on it though just to make sure. We also fitted in a little more shopping on the way back to the van park.
We will leave here tomorrow and head for Emerald which is a lovely park with a golf course just next door. Antennae not working as well as we had hoped. We can access and send emails but that is all.
Hopefully we will have a good connection tomorrow and I will be able to update the blog..
