On the way to Mount Morgan to see Ross' brother we found two great freedom camping sites which asked for a small donation to keep the sites going. One was at Mitchell at the John Walton Reserve which is a large reserve on the banks of the Mitchell river. We had access to taps for water and flushing toilets. The next one was at Theodore right in the town. It had flushing toilets and hot showers which cost a dollar for as long as you wanted. We came for one night...

Not much happening here as we visit Ross's brother Alan and Sister in law Alma in Mt Morgan. They were very pleased to see us. We went to one of the local pubs for lunch yesterday and Ross's nephew Steven came up too. It was great to catch up on family news. Ross and I went for drive to Rockhampton today. We leave tomorrow travelling south towards home

Mount Morgan was founded as a gold mining town in 1882, and over time the Mt Morgan Mine has produced gold, silver and copper. It is situated 40 km south-west of Rockhampton. The mine closed in 1981 and is now a tourist attraction. Ross's brother and his wife live there which was our reason for visiting the town. We left Charleville reluctantly as we really enjoyed our stay, but on we go. The next stop was to be Muckadilla, but as we drove through the town we decided that there might be something better further on so as Ross says when you are driving a big rig it's a bit hard to do a u turn so out with the Camps and caravan park books and looking furiously for something not too far away. I find a camp 12kms west of Roma, sounds interesting! It's called Caravan and Camping...

Saturday 4th August Miles We drove to Possum Park today. It is a lovely little park 20kms north of Miles. Possum Park is a very quiet special place nestled in the side of hills, just off the highway. Old train carriages have been made into self contained cabins and amenities for campers such as a Reading Room and TV Room.
