We made it to Missouri!
Today we have driven 300 miles from Chicago to St Louis.
The day started off with an epic cooked breakfast at the hotel and then we set off along our first stretch of Route 66. We ignored the route that our official travel guide gave us as it wanted us to go via the interstate and followed the tourists signs for Route 66 instead. We passed through Romeoville and Joliet and stopped at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood. There are row upon row of war veterans buried there. It is an absolutely incredible sight.
We drove on through Wilmington and Gardner and found an old abandoned gas station in Odell with some lovely old cars round the side and some awesome old fuel pumps.
We stopped at Pontiac where we visited the museum and visitors centre.
We passed through Normal, Bloomington, Lawndale, Lincoln and Williamsville. We then got thoroughly lost in Springfield and had to use the sat nav to get back on track. We picked Route 66 back up at Litchfield. We passed through Edwardsville and made it over the Mississippi River into Missouri.
A quick stop at 'Wendy's' for tea and off to bed ready for tomorrow's adventures. Don't think we did too badly for our first day of travelling!
