This morning started with the best waffles ever! Once we had stuffed ourselves we began our 300 mile trip.
Today mainly consisted of driving. We drove through Halltown, Avilla and Carthage. Just before we got to Joplin we found an original stretch of Route 66 where an old gas station had been restored. They were frantically cleaning the place and the owner said they had about 200 bikes coming through tomorrow! He explained that the stretch of road was original 1928 concrete. No wonder it was such a bumpy ride.
After Joplin we ventured into Kansas where the signs for Route 66 seemed to disappear. We ended up getting massively lost and saw another 50 miles of Kansas than we should've if we hadn't got lost.
Once we found the Mother Road again, we followed it to Baxter Springs. Allegedly Baxter Springs was the inspiration for Radiator Springs in Disney Pixar's film Cars. Just after you leave Baxter Springs there is an old tow truck painted up like Mater from the film and an old VW camper painted up like Fillmore. Absolutely brilliant!
