RolPol
We awake to rain…Pol thought it was the airconditioner...hmm...
Quick walk…
…to find breakky…Ros ordered lunch (a sandwich!!!)
…we found a cat café the first night we were in…but it was closed today – MONDAY Sucks sometimes!
Wet weather gear on and we’re ready to get to Dresden…
We have to cover the GPS !
The GPS took us through the heart of the city …and it was peak hour!! Some traffic light changes took 3 or 4 changes to get through...
Exibit A - cars blocking the intersection. There was a cacophony of horns going off!! We even had a go ourselves!
Tram lines...no big deal!
...more traffic & no bicycle lanes!
..miffed!
Ambulance..lane splitting…
So people get out the way…you’d hate to be in an emergency and waiting for an ambulance in peak hour here!!!
Road conditions were not looking so good today…
…and then it cleared up a little…
Waving to fellow travellers…
Check out the mountains ahead!
…and the fields!
Detour!!
The weather is beginning to look grim again…
The pink highlighted path is where we want to be…but we are being diverted, due to roadworks….along a not so parallel route!
…but we got to see nice countryside…
..and back to not being able to see much of what is around..
This dude used masking tape to tape his rainproof pants to his legs!!
18.5degrees…at 150km/h - not so nice
Visibility poor!!
..and we’re in Germany!! Pol didn’t manage to take the camera out in time to take a pic of the sign signifying this moment…but heres one that came up just after..
Clearly..we’re excited! But a little cold too!
So many trucks here too!!
Getting closer to the hotel…relief imminent!
….traffic!
Beautiful church!
This is the first time we’ve seen a porter help us with our luggage!
Weird floor numbers…
Spa bath!
Exibit B - Ros unpacking!
Straight out for a little exploring. Ros has been here before and acted in the capacity of a tour guide.
Multi person bike...There wasn't enough of us to try one...it wouldn't work with just the 2 of us! :(
Beautiful main church. This area was bombed heavily during the war. The Germans re-built it using as many of the original materials as possible.
Everywhere you look...you see something architecturally amazing...in such a small space!
We stopped for a late lunch...Ros was straight into the beer!
Ros nearly burned her hair on this candle…and stacking circle beer coasters!
Pol ordered traditional liver soup and Ros went for the traditional sausage (which looked anaemic!) which was served in boiled water!
Selfie day!!
Toilet key with map
We thought our tea was never ending!!!
Water pipes!
Bathtub seat!
Weather was not looking so good…
So back to the Hotel before dinner…
Now to head out for dinner…Ros found a Russian restaurant 2k’s away…so into the rain we go..
Ros using her umbrella to press the lift button!
Restaurant St Petersburg! This restaurant had pretty average reviews - mostly due to service...typical Russians!...
Ros with a German beer (as this was suggested by the waitress...since we're in Germany and Germans make good beer)...pol with a Scotch and Kvas (traditional Russian fermented drink)....Vlad (Pol's friend) made one of these traditional drinks Ros tried and found bread pieces and sultanas in it...luckily this one didn't have those.
Ros - getting into the beetroot soup (Borcht) and Pol - into the traditional salad
..Then...for Ros....the long awaited...meat dumplings (pilmeni).
Complimentary vodka
We found the service was great here - only after the waitress realised Pol was Russian....otherwise she looked disinterested in what she was doing.
...and we're off....
And then…
On this trip we've had an evening ritual of watching a documentary...and tonight... instead of lying in bed...we watched the Berlin Wall doco in style
