Ros - Setting the GPS to our next destination – a little town called Crans (a couple of hours after Geneva) Traffic in Paris, on our way out… Some pics taken on our way to Beaune for lunch: (The last 2 pics; we were stuck in the middle of a line of trucks…we chose to take the no toll roads option…the scenery was amazing, but some of these roads were heavy with trucks!!!) (Watch out for deer!) The road ahead…. On the road for 300k’s and around 400k’s to go still Grapes growing in vineyards Tractors share these roads in little country towns FINALLY – after fuelling up and swapping riding half way to Beaune…we were there!! There were unique rooves in Beaune. Check out the detail in the tiles! Beaune Ros – parking up somewhere on a footpath Beautiful church in Beaune Finally…Lunch time..we had not eaten since 9am and it was getting close to 230pm… Pol – tired, hungry and thirsty Ros – burned her chops on the way! One of ros’s favourites – Snails… Shortly after – Pol didn’t mind them at all! Pol – ready to go again…hours of riding ahead…check out the steep roof work on the building behind! This incredible building was called Hotel Dieu. ON the road again: ROAD CLOSED….Ros thought the officials on the scene were going to check our passports and was about to get off the bike to get them out of our top box…and it turned out that the road we wanted to go on was closed and the lovely police lady told us kindly to turn around and gave us directions to get onto the road we needed to!! *Note the deviation signs…the road block pushed us back around half an hour! This is our navigation system – The pillion takes the GPS and directs the rider…we haven’t been in a scuffle over accidental incorrect directions…! The budget GPS is difficult to read at times where streets intersect and one can easily give the incorrect direction to the rider….!! The border crossing: …or so we thought. Ros was riding at this stage and we wondered if the guy in the blue was stopping vehicles and checking passports..so we pulled over next to him and Ros asked if we could go through…he looked at us quizzically and casually said…yes….still with a weird look on this face….we may have interrupted something between him and the car driver? The real border crossing: There were no boom gates at the border crossing between France and Switzerland and one official standing with 2 lanes of traffic lines… as Ros was riding toward the stop line, no one looked up at us and there was plenty of opportunity to floor it and get going…but we did the right thing and stopped. The official was busy checking a car’s contents out as we asked what we have to do …she just waved us on to go through..no checks at all!!!! WELCOME TO SWITZERLAND! These guys are not as generous with their motorway speeds. Champ-Aux- Roses Still in high spirits after a long ride and plenty more K’s to go! There were a few raised highways…stunning scenery! Sunflower farms! – These flowers were facing the sun so as you approach – the field looks like a sea of green and when you turn back it is a sea of yellow! The mountains ahead… There are motorway tunnels drilled through mountains! Ros – another fuel up stop Getting dark and late. Around 830pm and we’re nearly there… Going up – nearly there… There were hardly any barriers around sharp turns – and some turns…without warning..were almost literally a u-turn road!!!! The GPS took us to a dead end that became a pedestrian trail path so we went back down then tried to go up again...and then came back down...again...and tried going back up again (in case we missed something) and then we saw a guy standing on his balcony and called him down. He said we had to go back down the hill and up another road - we were not at all in the right direction! (bloody cheap GPS's!). Then we had to message Pernille and get her to stand out the front until she saw us drive past - after yet another wrong turn off!!!! Pernille cooked us an amazing vegetarian dinner. Ros and Pernille had loads to catch up on! The scenery around this place was amazing!!!! The next morning…Friday 17th… We decided to go for a walk and have a picnic in the woods. Pernille had a map with a 10km walk planned so we headed off… Planning stage: Preparation stage: The walk begins.. (we found wild strawberries….!) (and a dead snake) We made it… 10mins later… First cat appeared… Then a dog… Then another cat… And finally…another dog! Due to us petting the cats for 20 mins, we missed our bus and the next one wasn’t for another hour… and we didn’t have the energy to walk back up the hill… We luckily found a petrol station and a guy kind enough to drive us home!! Ros cooked dinner! We nearly travelled half of Europe- well at least it felt like it. We were on the road from Paris at 930am and finished at Crans around 9pm - roughly 700ks in total. Surprisingly the GS700 is very comfortable. Neither of us had a sore back....just sore bottoms. Nothing a coffee break couldn't fix
