After a sleep-in we ventured out in search of breakky....not long after walking to the main square, we found a cute little tram themed café which has buffet breakfast for 9 Euros...Even the waitress was dressed as a tram conductor! Then we were off to a little town we knew nothing about - as it was a half way stop before reaching Ros's friend's house in Koblenz.... ...A short while into the trip we realised our wet weather gear may not hold up in this constant rain!!! Looking like it’s going to clear up!! It does…but it’s still cold and we’re soaking wet! Pol ploughed on with riding! Happy moment - only brief though - it's not currently raining...but it's still cold!!!!! Traffic! Courage..?!? Ros found a courage sign, it was intended to motivate us to keep on going! - we're sure... Ros was on GPS duty, we were soooo cold and just wanted to arrive... Ros kept spirits high with a little encouraging: "nearly there"…then 3km then another 3km after that…about 30 mins later...we're still not there!! The ride was about 3 hours, Pol aced it! Even with freezing toes, fingers, (actually whole body really) and shocking visibility! Ros did her best to take pics but...she had trouble pressing the shutter button with her frozen mits! At some point she was trying to take a selfie of both of us...but couldn't manage to do it! Wish we stopped here..they had a fire going! Ros - warming up! When we arrived we were too cold to take pics. Ros was frozen in position on the back of the bike and it seemed a hard effort for her to get off the bike....when she did though...she looked like she couldn't walk!! Her feet were frozen! To make matters slightly more uncomfortable.... the accommodation and whole village looked closed for the day....luckily though there was someone to open up for us...it turns out to be the owner...who is sympathetic to our situation but still keeps talking while Ros is shivering...mind you Ros was asking questions too (she thought it was lunch time and it was 4pm - she asked about places to eat lunch at and the owner looked at us slightly stunned!!!! It was funny to see us both cold and the owner still talking to us about our accommodation and where to go etc!!!! Finally he let us into our room where Ros had a hot shower...which was still not making her much warmer... so Pol wrapped her up in blankets! Dinner in the accommodation's restaurant. It was the only place in the village to eat and it closed at 8pm. Dinner was such a nice experience in this town, it felt like everyone knew each other - including knowing us!!! When a person walked into the restaurant/bar they acknowledged us and at one point there was a man who walked up to our table and asked about our travels. The hotel owners Jack and Diantha were an amazing couple. Jack was there - asking questions, offering advice and opinions as Diantha was telling him to stop talking to us and let us eat! Diantha is the chef there and made us the best steak we've tasted and the biggest salad for Pol. Then dessert... First icecream… ...Second icecream! …room service! 3rd ice cream! Pol was too embarrassed to go back down and ask for another helping of chocolate ice cream (sooo delish) so she asked if Ros would do it...Ros did - she got changed out of her pjs! What a trooper! Thanks Ros! The best chocolate ice cream ever!! Chocolate ice cream helps blogging! Oh and if you're wondering why we titled this post "The City at the End of the World" - it is because this part of East Germany is close to the West German Border and when the Berlin Wall was still standing, the locals thought it apt to name this town as the end of the world as it is very close to the West German border and there is nothing really in or around this town, it's tiny!
