Next leg... We found last minute air bnb accommodation just outside Aix-en-Provence. So we headed straight there from Grenoble. On the way out along the back country roads we encountered holiday traffic...caravans...foreign drivers...Sunday drivers...anyone and everyone who did not seem capable of reaching within 25k's of the speed limit at any given time! The problem was - no overtaking lanes and most of the roads were windy so it was hard to overtake! We stopped for a quick lunch in a random little country town half way. And the roads had luckily only just reopened from a leg of the Tour de France riding through. A funny little lunch - our waiter had trackies and a dirty white tee on with minimal English! It was good sitting outside under the shade of the trees as most of our ride was a scorching 35 degrees! Shortly after a local farmer turned up on his tractor, reverse parked it and headed to a table for lunch with his friend!! Some photos along the way: (check out the bike!!) (there was a castle on top of the rocks!) (fuel stop!) On arrival Denise met us at the gate. She spoke barely any English, only French and Italian. But we managed to communicate pretty well together. We had a lovely little room, and shared their bathroom, although we hardly saw them upstairs. She could see we were hot and tired from the ride so she got us cold water. We had a nap before dinner. (Denise neatly arranged towels and towelettes for us!) (they even had a memento gift for us!) (This is Denise and her husband- amazingly warm and welcoming people) They served us a 3 course meal (some of the best chicken we've ever had) with nibbles and a variety of liqueurs, spirits and a bottle of wine! All for only 15 euros! Pol got her phone out so we did some translation with each other, and we ended up being able to communicate pretty well. Denise showing rose her garden. After dinner they asked what we wanted for brekky! Brekky was included in our accommodation price. It's been so hot down in the south of France, and no one has air con, so we both struggled to sleep that night. Pol was doing a good job of being the sacrificial mosquito repellent for Ros, although Ros sustained a couple of bites in the cross fire.
