Time to leave. It was an amazing experience staying with Pernille in the swiss mountains. Next stop: Grenoble to visit Pol’s friend Leon On our way out of Switzerland: (Narrow windy roads…beautiful views..perfect! – although the luggage weighed us down through turns. Not to worry) (abricots anyone?) (it was getting cooler and foggier the higher we went) (there’s still snow on some peaks!) Border crossing – No one was manning the station! Welcome back to France! Some pics on our way through France toward Mont Blanc: Parking in Chamonix Mont Blanc…it took us ages to find parking, there were so many people in this town! – But we managed to get our bike behind a tree..out of sight..out of mind… nearly anyway! Mont Blanc (“white mountain”) is the highest mountain in the alps…amazing views here! - (Lunch time!) Back on the road again. Sated and full of coffee and sugar free Redbull– Toll roads! - We still haven't figured out how to get through these without having to call for assistance!! We arrived at Leons in the late afternoon just as he was about to pick one of his friends up from the train station who is also visiting him from Sydney! The next day... The boys rose early to go bicycle riding and we got to sleep in. We planned to meet for lunch at Alpe D'Huez. Famous for it's cycling, one of the Tour de France routes, and as Leon said 'cycling mecca'. We rode the motorbike up to meet them. Amazing scenery and roads, so different riding without all out luggage. We had a coffee with the guys at the finish line of that leg of the Tour de France. Barricades were already in place for next week and campervans had started taking their positions! (ros in safety shorts and shirt) This road is famous for its turns.... (Tour De France will be here soon!) (Teddy dog!) (quick coffee at the top - Tour de France finish line) before the boys head off down the mountain and onto another route - I think they covered well over 100ks on their bikes today! (the lads as they were on their way back) Then we rode up to Col du Gandon for lunch. Beautiful ride, nice bends and sharp pin hair bends with no warning rode signs. The GPS holder behind the rider acted like a rally drivers assistant informing the rider of bends, their severity and distance. (this is a damn big dam) (finally found parking - and when we returned from lunch there were a fleet of motorcycles around us!) Lunch That day there was an amateur bike race and we found the road closed to go any further. Luckily we had planned on having lunch at this little restaurant on the hill. Ros's burn - ah. Now. Ros was helping Pol move the bike at the cycling mecca where we met up with Leon and Joel for a coffee and accidentally pushed the bike with her chop which landed on the exhaust. Poor Ros :( On the way back down again and to Grenoble: (note the toll road coming up!!!! - Ros was not happy) That's it for the photos of the day as the camera got forgotten while it was charging over dinner. Road courtesy in France amongst bikes! We're getting it! Scooters and bikes don't acknowledge each other (Pol tried a few times). Also chopper bikes often don't wave back so we wait for them to first imitator proceedings. Here there aren't helmet nods. Instead you put your left hand out to acknowledge the other rider, or when a bike is overtaking you acknowledge each other by putting your right foot out and down. We're locals now! Then we headed back and had home made pizza for dinner. Yum! Thanks so much Leon for having us stay at your lovely home for a couple of nights. We learnt lots about the area and cycling!
