Day 3, and we've discovered that we're really popular with Australian nature. Not because of our easy wit and general joie de vivre, but because our soft white English flesh is so tasty that the pesky little bugs can't stop munching us. Today has therefore been spent trying to resist the temptation to scratch not helped by the fact that for most of the day it has been stinking hot.
We've had a good day none the less, starting leisurely with a stroll on the beach then a leisurely breakfast (for Gareth) whilst Caroline went for a run. A quick play on the bodyboard before finally setting off on the road.
We weren't going far as we wanted to take a closer look at the lighthouse. Smoky Cape lighthouse is pretty stunning, the short white painted turret with the old white painted cottages not too dissimilar to other lights along the coast. I think the location beats Byron Bay though.
Onwards down the coast our next stop was Port Maquarie. After a welcome cup of coffee and slice of cake (this is a holiday after all) we headed to the Sea Acres Rainforest Centre for a walk around the forest boardwalk. This was mercifully shady in the lunchtime heat.
After lunch we ploughed on to Crowdy Bay, and Diamond Head. This turned out to be down a long stretch of gravel road, slowing our progress as I didn't want to break Buddy, or us. Too hot to walk far, we bimbled along the beach and wet our feet. Watched more Roos in the camp site as well as 2 huge Lace Monitors, one of which was looting somebodys caravan awning.
Tonight we arrived at Seal Rocks. Later than planned, and with light rain bringing the temperature down - a good thing.
Tomorrow will be a big drive, as we want to bypass Sydney, so an early night for an early start!
