Day 24: The weather had improved, and the morning was dry, although still not sunny. Perfect conditions for our Grand Canyon walk.
Starting at Evans Lookout we dropped down to the canyon floor through along a stepped path. The canyon was humid, feeling much like rainforest, the trees and ferns holding the moisture in the air. The walking though was easy allowing us to enjoy the views as we wound through the canyons. The path headed up and then ran along a ledge on the side of the canyon walls before heading back out of the canyon. Although the day was not that hot the humidity had made it a hard workout and we were glad of a stop for coffee before continuing our sightseeing and heading north.
One last Blue Mountains viewpoint became two as we called in to Anvil Rock on the way to Pulpit Rock. Both afforded different but equally impressive views of the mountains, canyons and wilderness. Pulpit rock particularly impressive with a view of bridal veil falls from a precipice accessed via a steep stairway.
We took a bit of a detour to Mt Wilson to cook our lunch, unbeknown to us the village had been taken over by a film crew for The Great Gatsby!
On the road we headed to the north of the mountains then headed directly north between the Wolembi and Yengo National Parks. The road was deserted, and there was little but dense forest as we drove on so we didn't stop just enjoyed the drive.
Arriving at the Hunter Valley where we will be staying for a day of relaxation and a deserved glass of wine or two. This started with a hotel, with a proper bathroom that we don't need to cross a field to get to!
