Got up and said goodbye to our San Diego neighbours. And left for a long road trip at 8am. Finally brought our season vehicle pass for the national parks. It only cost $80 which is a bloody bargain!!!! Travelled on the Tiago road, beautiful scenery. At the top it , 9000 feet, it started snowing on us. Along the way we seen them tarsealing the road. They literally just get trucks to dump the tar on top of the old road and this big machine follows flattening it out and compacting it. Very effective way to do it. Once again getting many people staring at our van. No reception, so we can't use Google maps. A little bit of an issue as we are trying to get to Salt Lake City which is in Utah. We had to cross the whole of Nevada today.
Stopped at a cute rural town general store. The lady here told us she would love to visit New Zealand so she named her cat New Zealand as it is the closest she will get to it. They helped us by printing off the directions. So much help!!! We have found all Americans so helpful so far. Expect the one on fisherman's wharf who was selling over priced cookies and refused to fill up our water bottles. Bridgette ran over a squirrel which Erin wasn't too upset about because she doesn't really like them. She thinks they are just like rats. Encountered such a range of weather. The land is sooooo dry, so we got sunshine, rain, hail, snow and even fork lightening. Stopped at McDonald's for lunch and some much needed WiFi. A lady here was the first to identify we are from New Zealand. She said she can tell by the way we say NO.
Carried on driving. Made it to a Starbucks car park, where we cooked up a vegetarian stir fry. After a few interesting looks we used the WiFi, toilets and charged my camera before hitting the road again. Made it to salt lake city where we parked up in a walmart.
