Saturday - March 22
On Saturday, Mom, Lora, and I made our way to Windsor Castle. The train journey was only about 30 minutes from my flat, which wasn't bad at all. I'm afraid we didn't pick the best day to tour the castle, since it was raining, sleeting, and snowing throughout the day. So much for spring break! However, once we were inside the State Apartments, the tour was mainly indoors. One of my favorite items was Queen Mary's doll house. This huge doll house was intricately decorated with ornate furniture and interior design, and even had electricity and plumbing!! We also toured the all State Apartments which were gorgeous with elaborate ceilings and chandeliers. Before heading back to London we had some hot chocolate at a small café to warm our bones!
Sunday - March 23
On Easter Sunday we attended services at John Wesley's Chapel in London. As Methodists, it was pretty cool to go to church here on Easter. The music and service were beautiful and we were warmly welcomed by the congregation. Following the service, we did a tour of the chapel, museum, and John Wesley's house. It was great to learn more about the stories behind the stained glass and view artifacts from Wesley's life. After the tour, we made our way back to my flat to cook Easter lunch. By the time our roast, vegetables, and rolls were ready to eat it was already 5 pm. More like Easter dinner!
Monday - March 24
We began Monday morning with a tour of St. Paul's Cathedral. This is probably one of my favorite things I've done in London so far. I loved the architecture and ceiling mosaics throughout the cathedral. Although I understand why, I was disappointed I couldn't take photos inside because it was so beautiful. Mom, Lora, and I climbed the 160 stairs to the first viewing gallery. This was called the whispering gallery because you stand along one wall and whisper, and someone around the other side can hear. Although I would have loved to go to the top, we decided not to since the narrow and steep spiral staircase was a little unnerving!
After St. Paul's, I took Mom and Lora on the London Eye. They both were a little nervous about the height at first but they loved it! It was a beautiful day, which made it even better to see all the sights of London. We took some great photos and finally got one of all three of us together!
Monday night we had a relaxing dinner at a delicious Italian restaurant in Oxford Circus. After dinner, we went to the Sound of Music, which I had gotten tickets for a few weeks ago. It was an amazing performance and we had great seats only about 10 rows back from the stage!
