With one cheap night and one completely free night on the DOC sites we were heading to Havelock today to a campsite recommended to us by someone who stayed there a couple of weeks ago.
Before we set off there we stopped off in Nelson to use the internet at the library, as we desperately needed to plan the USA stage of our trip.
After three hours in the library we headed to the beach to have some lunch and found that there was a free concert on. There were loads of people enjoying the lovely weather and live music. After we'd had a bite to eat we went back on the internet for a couple more hours and set off to Havelock at about 4.00pm.
Rachael splashed out at the supermarket and bought us some steaks for tea which were a nice treat! That evening, we were sat by the tent when the young lad whose family owned the campsite came round looking for a couple that had booked onto a glowworm tour with him. It turned out they had been out themselves to see to worms but we jumped at the chance to see go and he kindly offered to take us to the cave at the bottom of the campsite to see them.
It was brilliant! The lad was only 11 and his family were from Somerset originally and had moved out to NZ and bought this campsite. He knew lots about the glow-worms, was really enthusiastic and even flattered Tom by telling him that the pictures he took of the glow worms were the best he'd seen. We walked back up to the campsite and finished our bottle of wine under a sky full of bright stars.
