Christmas eve or just Thursday if you ask Rachael. It doesn't feel like Christmas here at all. When we were in Australia we booked a hostel for three days over Christmas in Christchurch, not knowing how busy places were going to be so thats where we were heading this morning.
The site we were on last night was only about a 20 minute drive away from Christchurch and we arrived at the hostel just after lunch. Thankfully the hostel was nice, probably the nicest on the trip and as a bonus there was a free parking area right outside the door.
That afternoon we walked along the river Avon into the city, which was quite small and ended up spending a couple of hours at the library taking advantage of the free internet. That evening we all enjoyed a free bbq and drinks courtisy of the hostel which was lovely and Rachael was tasked with fighting her way through the crowds to get as many sausages as she could carry each time they were dished up. After the bbq we got chatting to two brothers from Sheffied who very kindly supplied us with beer for the rest of the evening.
