After a heavy night drinking Gina and I didn't get up until midday. We left the hostel and walked to the start of the gondola. We get 50% off this with our Explore New Zealand cards so we got a return ticket that included the buffet lunch with it as well. We travelled up on the gondola. It's so high and you can see the whole of Queenstown. The views are spectacular. We went to the restaurant for the buffet lunch. There was a wide range of choice here and it was really good lunch. Afterwards we went to the lookout points to take photos of the view of Queenstown. Then we travelled back down on the gondola. The cost is normally $47.00 so we only paid $23.50 for the ticket and lunch. Bargain. I said goodbye to Gina for the afternoon and went to sign in for the Shotover Canyon Swing at 2.45pm. It is 109 metres high and you freefall for 60 metres and then swing for 200 metres at 150mph. I didn't do the Kawarau bridge bungy when Gina did it so I wanted to do the Canyon Swing instead. There was 8 of us doing it and we all had to be weighed so that they knew what rope to use for all of us depending on our weight. Jason and Colin who were on the Kiwi Experience were doing it as well. We were driven to where the Canyon Swing takes place. It only takes 10 minutes. We went to the platform and got our harnesses on. We had to decide how we wanted to jump off. I wanted to jump off backwards but when I saw how high it was I changed my mind and went with the style called The Cutaway. I was second to do it and moved towards the edge of the platform. They attached the rope to my harness and pushed me away from the platform so I was dangling over the clifftop. They try and mess with your head as well to make you scared saying 'I don't think your attached' and 'I wouldn't hold onto that' and 'I hope the rope works' etc. It was scary as it was so high. The worst bit is that you don't know when they are going to release you. They teased me a bit and then suddenly let me go. The drop was so fast as you freefall 60 metres past rocky cliff faces and then your going 150mph into a giant 200 metre swing. It was great fun though and after I had stopped I wanted to do it again. I was hanging over the Shotover River for a while and I looked up and the platform looked so far away. I got reeled back up to the platform. I was so glad that I did it. I watched the others do it and then went to watch my video and look at all my photos. I got 50% off the Canyon Swing with the Explore New Zealand card. The cost is normally $199.00 so I only paid $99.50. I bought all the photos and DVD for $65.00 and they printed one photo out for me as well. We headed back and I got back to the hostel around 6pm. Gina and I went to get some food and then had some drinks in our dorm room while we were getting ready to go out. We headed to World Bar at 11pm and met up with all the lads. It was all our last night in Queenstown as we are heading to Christchurch tomorrow. It was a great night. Our time in Queenstown has been fantastic and has definitely been one of my favourite places I have visited in New Zealand.
