We left the hostel at 9.30am to join the bottom bus. I said goodbye to Jo, Nicole and Keira as this will be the last time I will see them before they leave Queenstown. There are only 12 people doing the bottom bus so we are travelling in a minibus this time. When doing the Kiwi Experience we were travelling in a coach as its more popular. We are heading to Dunedin today. On the way we stopped off at a lookout point of the massive Clyde dam which holds 33,229,712 billion goldfish bowls of water and then grabbed some lunch in Clyde town. When we arrived into Dunedin it was around 2pm. We were shown Baldwin Street - the world's steepest street. Some people tried to walk up but only managed halfway and then turned back. After this we checked into our hostel - On Top backpackers where we are staying for 1 night. I am in a dorm room with Andrew, Malin and Sofie who I met on the Kiwi Experience. Dunedin is recognised as the most Scottish city outside Kilt-Land (Dunedin means Edinburgh in Gaelic). It's also the wildlife capital of New Zealand. It boasts the only mainland Albatross colony in the world, rare penguins, seals and lots of sharks. There's also Larnach's castle (one of New Zealand's oldest and most striking buildings), an excellent museum and art gallery, beautiful beaches (one of New Zealand's surfing meccas), harbour cruises and Carisbrook (a rugby temple). Thousands of 'scarfies' (university students) live in the inner city studying at the University of Otago. At 3.15pm we went to Cadbury's World where we had a factory tour showing us how they make chocolate and package all the kinds of chocolate bars up ready to send around New Zealand or abroad. During the tour we were given some free chocolate bars to enjoy. After the tour we were able to purchase different kinds of chocolate bars at a cheaper price than what you can buy them in the shops. The tour cost $18.00 and I received 10% off with my Explore New Zealand card. In the evening the four of us chilled out and Andrew and I had a look around Dunedin in search of some dinner.
