My jeans are starting to feel a little loose around the waist after all this walking. My two pints with lunch to balance things out is hopefully going to work, but this remains to be seen.
Well, I certainly got some km's up exploring Edinburgh the past two days, National Gallery, National Museum, Arthurs Seat, St Giles Cathedral, Caiton Hill. The Royal Mile, old cemeteries, a few local pubs and a Haunted Tour through and under the Old Town into the crypts.
No wonder my jeans feel loose...
But obviously the highlight of all of that was going to see Harry Potter at the local cinema. Afterwards I passed a cafe called something Elephants from memory, which was plugging itself as J.K's starting point of writing the series.
During the movie there is a shot of St Pancras station in Kings X which I posted a few days ago, and then I passed that cafe, the signs were there that it was indeed my turn to write!
So I dashed back to my apartment and wrote a preface for my novel. After 6 paragraphs I had writers block and went to the pub...
Ash, how many words should I have in a novel? The Steig Larsson I am reading whilst over here has 10500, is that an average number?
Couldnt make it to the top of Arthurs seat as there had been rockslides and the path was closed, but made it a fair way up so that was ok. Through the photos you should be able to see various landmarks from different distances, this will give you an idea of my trekking around.
Off to St Andrews tommorrow, planning on stopping at Stirling Castle and the Famous Grouse distillery on the way.
Still unsure whether or not to try and get a start at the golf, its a must do, but so expensive... We will soon find out!

Ash Steig was pretty prolific (until he carked it) - how did you manage to count how many words he wrote? Average novel is 80,000-120,000 words so your 6 paragraphs in the right direction!
