New Year's Eve signalled the end of mine and Tony's stay at chill and it was actually a bit depressing having being there for 2 months myself and for tony the only real place he's stayed at over in oz. fortunately enough we were allowed to use the facilities for the rest of the day, so after quickly doing some errands in town we came back and started getting ready for the night. Took advantage of the movie room one last time then finally shaved that stupid haircut off and started pre-drinking.
We turned up at evolution apartments and because apparently only a certain amount of people are allowed in the room so there are no parties, we had to enter the building four at a time. After getting inside and up to the 26th floor we went to the room and you could tell why it cost 500 dollars for the night.
There was the standard kitchen, fridge, sofas and tv but there was two bathrooms and two bedrooms and a balcony sandwiched in between with an awesome view!
The drinking had already commenced and it seemed that Steve who bought the apartment only brought 6 people while tony got maybe double that. I won't go into detail about the drinking antics but it was great crack! The fireworks over the river was a great moment too seeing in the new year but I never really took it in as I was taking loads of pictures of it and by time the drinking stopped we watched the sun rise over brisbane with a great view.
It was about midday when me and tony left the hotel, mainly because we spent plenty time trying to clean up a smashed bottle of red wine in a cream carpet, courtesy of tony, who still hadn't sobered up by this time. We returned to the hostel and since we checked out and the rules are strict, we weren't actually allowed to go past reception and computer room, so most of the day was laughing up what happened the night before and nursing a hangover.
Finally it got to 9pm so we said our goodbyes which was a sad moment since it was the first place I've stayed long enough to actually connect with people, and the city and hostel was so nice we knew we wouldn't get the same atmosphere or standards in the next place Griffith...
We got the last train to the airport and arrived about 10ish and had to wait around until 5am for our flight. That was a long and tedious night which reminded me of Dubai airport, so bloody hard to sleep in a place like that. Caught the flight and arrived in Sydney at 7.35am, would you believe it, first time I've left Queensland, named the sunshine state, and its overcast in Sydney. Got out the airport and caught a train to central station where the greyhound coach would be picking us up at 5pm so we had to wait around for hours with nowhere to put our bags. Conveniently enough there was a park right next to us so me and tony pretty much fell asleep for the rest of the morning, although I kept waking up to make sure nobody had nicked our bags since there was a lot of weird people in the park, probably half of the homeless.
It's hard to comment on what Sydney is like since I was hardly there and didn't see much, although I went to the main downtown which was massive, but a lot of people say it reminds them of London back home but I'm not sure if they mean it in a good or bad way. Personally it reminded me of London too, the building and set up, overcast weather and city life, but it also reminded me of being back home a little too. A bit surreal to be honest.
We caught up with matt Donovan who came down to Sydney for Xmas and new year, who was also meant to come fruit picking with us but couldn't get a room. It was good to see and catch up with him again since I hung out a lot with him in Brisbane. Got the coach at 5pm and we stopped off in Canberra and changed to another coach to take us to Griffith, aside from arsey old women and drivers not knowing their destination it was still a s*** journey. Which took until 3am to arrive in Griffith.
