got the bus at 7.40 to take me to Brisbane, it was a 5 hour journey and when I arrived it was a bit weird being in a big city, first time in Australia and it looked really nice, it felt very American the high rise buildings and the roads are very wide and you can only cross the road at traffic lights because it's so big.
Got to my hostel which was located very helpfully just up from the transit centre, meaning the bus and train station. Checked in and it's a nice hostel, it's a lot more quiet than some of the hostels I've been to and that's better so i don't keep spending Money on drink and I can cope better when I get a job. It's also got a movie room where they show like 5 films a day which is really cool especially if you want a chill out day.
I spoke to a lot of people Brisbane and some said it was very difficult to get a job, I'm not sure if I'm lucky or other people are really picky but I got an interview sorted after looking for a job in the time frame of 15 minutes. Granted it was a call centre job but anything would do, my first full day I got the train over to the place and there was me and two Irish guys getting interviewed, if you could call it that, they only asked how long you've been in oz and why you left home, but then when they talked about the job it was commission only which made it sound very s***.
Got the job an hour later and was told my training started the next day, got a pack lunch sorted and dressed smart ( well smart as you can being a backpacker) and went to reception to sort out staying in my room a week longer since I would be long staying here in the long term.
The woman at reception asked me if I was looking for work and before I knew it she gave me the numbers of two other jobs, one was a kitchen hand for a restaurant which I wasn't fussed about and the other was a labour job for some construction, this appealed more since I never did anything like it and fancied a job thats a bit more hands on. Rang up and the guy called John who was the gaffer said I needed a white card first so I applied online, took an hour and 35 dollars to get it and then I was sorted. Rang up John again and asked me to turn up the next day to have a talk about the job.
