It was freezing last night, we think around 8 degrees. Although we quickly forgot about that when we saw the beautiful sunrise from our camper window. We set off and took in the vista at the Old Victoria River crossing and then went a little further into the national park and did a 1.7km walk under the escarpment. Moving along the Victoria Highway we stopped for lunch at Timber Creek and Geoff got chatting to two other travellers. The first were a family with almost exactly the same set up as us - a white land rover disco 4 with a roof box on top and a Jayco Outback camper - as you can imagine Geoff was on for a chat. The second was a couple from the Netherlands who are travelling the world in a custom built land cruiser. The kids thought it was fascinating that the steering wheel was on the other side of the car. They are keeping a blog and if anyone is interested it is www.exploringtheworld.nl
After I dragged Geoff away we visited Gregory's Tree which is where some early explorers made camp. We are starting to see boab trees along the roadside now.
Next stop Waterloo Station. A huge cattle property owned by the Brett's who are friends of the Woodleys. Geoff stayed here with Rob Woodley and John this time last year.
The property is about 80kms off the Duncan Highway on the Northern Territory WA border. As we drove into the homestead and got out of the car we heard a hissing sound coming from the back tyre - yep, a flat tyre. I did keep telling Geoffrey to slow down on the gravel road!!! Still this is a good place to get one rather than out on the road in the middle of nowhere. We had an evening drink with Alison and Colin on their verandah as a full moon rose. Our camper is parked near the jackaroo and jillaroo quarters and we are able to use their bathrooms.
