Wednesday morning we set off for Litchfield National Park to camp for the night. We had Beepy on board and also met up with Will and Sam who flew up to Darwin for a few days en route to Bali. The waterfalls and waterholes at Litchfield are beautiful and look like they are just out of a Northern Territory tourist guide. First stop was Florence Falls just for a look see as we wanted to get to Wangi Falls to snare a camping spot before they all filled up. Too late, so we managed to get the camper trailer into a picnic area spot and stayed there for the night. The water in the falls is crystal clear and cools you down immediately. We then went on our first 4wd drive track through crocodile infested rivers (well more creeks really).
Geoff cooked a delicious butterfly lamb on the weber he was desperate to have Will and Sam stay in our spare tent and show them that camping could be more fun than a 5 star hotel. All to no avail as Will and Sam escaped back to their hotel in Darwin (approx a 1 3/4 hour drive) about 11pm that night. Beeps on the other hand stayed at the nearby salubrious Litchfield Safari Camp in 5 star luxury (not).
The following day Will and Sam drove back to Litchfield and we met up at Florence Falls and hiked down to the swimming hole. We watched a backpacker jump off a 20m cliff into the pools below. Of course Geoff wanted to try it as well (egged on by Will) but I hosed that idea down. We then headed back to Darwin and off to Mindil Beach markets for dinner.
