Today we drove 650 Kms and 18 degrees. It was 12 this morning at 3 ways and a glorious 30 degrees at Katherine. Finally the warmth! I took on a road train today and almost lost, he gave me a massive honk on his horn as we went past and he was no doubt abusing me over the CB - but that is one gadget Geoff hasn't quite mastered yet so we couldn't listen in.
We had a pit stop at mataranka thermal springs and had a reviving dip. Then onward to Katherine where we stopped to stock up on supplies. We noticed a lot of indigenous folk in the car park and we felt quite conspicuous in our shiny white car and shiny white camper trailer, a bit confronting really. While Geoff was at Woolies I went to the bottle shop. The lady asked me for photo id, I was excited thinking she must think I am under 18, but no she had to scan my drivers license to make sure I wasn't "banned" (thankfully I passed and was allowed to purchase). Makes you feel sad that this needs to be done.
We then motored out to Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk) where we are camping for the night in a "resort" style camping ground, complete with swimming pool. We walked to the gorge lookout for sunset - stunning.
A baby brown snake slithered across our path on the walk back down - yikes!

John and Margaret Hi Geoff and Kate. Sounds like you've quickley embraced outback touring. We're amazed at how muchy ground you've covered in such a short time. Did you see receive the photo of the Camper John sent you? Just like yours and is owned by a family he met while doing his 4WD training course. John's was hoping to see photos of your fantastic bodies enjoying Mataranka Springs. A beautiful lily white site to behold I'm sure. Looking forward to reading updates of your fantatstic journey. Travel safe.
