I've had so much fun today. This was supposed to be our last day in Gonder, before heading off for the Sudan. Kat and I headed into town to pick up some supplies, notably junk food and bog rolls. We got a Tuk Tuk in which was really cool as I had never been in one before.
We got to town and headed for the post office so Kat could post some letters, then Kat spent about an hour in this clothes shop trying on jeans. We also spotted a beauty parlor and I managed to get a pedicure, which I really needed. Kat got a haircut and wash and blow dry. That was interesting and very funny. The ladies in the shop had obviously never cut western hair before and Kat basically had to show them how to do it. In short she almost gave herself the hair cut.
I went and got my supplies and then went back to the salon, I managed to get my hair dyed bright red for 150 birr. About $15 Aussie. It came out really bright and the lady gasped in horror and looked like she was about to apologise. I told her, "No, I love it! This is how I have it at home."She gave me a strange look.
I walked out of the beauty salon and went to get a tuk tuk. Two nice young boys helped explain to the driver where I was going and helped me get a good price. Between telling me how beautiful I was, finally I'm not getting ripped off, I thought to myself. I should have dyed my hair bright red earlier I thought."Chow lovely!" One of the young guys said and off I went back to the hotel.
I hung around for the rest of the day, updating my blog, after six weeks with no internet access, it's been a huge job. There was a bit of a party at the hotel and we decided it was "hat night" so out came Jazz hat, then we all swapped hats. A good time was had by all.
We are supposed to be leaving for the Sudan tomorrow, but are waiting for six new tyres to turn up from Addis Ababa. See how we go……
