Are we going to Addis Ababa Mr. Lutor?
I woke up in Addis Ababa today and went out sigh seeing with the group and Daster. Before we went I attempted to get on the internet and handed Eva over to reception for safe keeping. Rachel came running up to me as I was signing the forms and told me the Pumba, or safe had leaked all over everyone's passports. Mine was thankfully fine, but Siobhan and Shannon's were ruined. Being the weekend there really wasn't anything we could do then and there, so we decided to carry on with the day as planned.
We tried to get Daster to take us to an atm, but he took us straight to the market, we protested and he said he would take us after the market. To which we replied, "We can't shop without money!" Some of us went off to the Sheraton to get money and others stayed at the market. David, Rachel. Yngvar and went to get money. The first atm didn't work, but the one on the bottom floor worked and we were all very excited. Then we had cake, bought for us by Rachel, it was also Yngvar's birthday, so cake was definitely called for.
We then went and joined the group and went souvenir shopping. I bought a new bag and a Lalibela cross, I also bought two lovely Ethiopian Orthadox icons and a sistrum. It was now about lunch time and we had lunch in a local restaurant, which was really nice, I had spaghetti yet again.
We visited St. Mary's church on top of the hill and went in the museum there. In the same complex was the palace of Menelik, which we had a walk around. The view of Addis was fantastic from this spot, the highest in the city.
After the tour we met Dave and Sarah back at the hotel and went out for a meal at a traditional Ethiopian place. I didn't particularly like the food, the Ingera bread is awful, and you have to eat it as they don't give you a knife and fork and you need to pick your food up with the bread.
We went back to the hotel a quite late and Dave was a little drunk, which was quite funny. Siobhan and I stayed up watching Red Dwarf for a while, I thought she might need a good laugh.
